All students understand the agony of encountering a math problem that they are unable to solve, a problem that sits right where it is, impeding them from being able to complete their work. The perfect solution to this conundrum is Mathway. Mathway is an app, available on both Android and iTunes, that allows for students to solve just about any math problem they come across. The app is superb in its elasticity, referring to the diversity in which it can change between numerous types of math including algebra, calculus, and even chemistry; and those aren’t half of the choices available. The app also incorporates a camera tool that enables students to take a photo of the problem presented to them, process it, and proceed to solve it. Mathway has a simple layout that is easily understandable by both students and teachers, and in an educational environment, it can prove to be extremely useful. Although this app has many pros it does include a couple cons; the app requires a purchase for the user to be able to see the steps and formulas used to solve the problems. However, even without a premium purchase the app still has the potential to be a valuable tool, it still provides you with quick answers to tough problems. Furthermore, reliance on the app would be unhealthy for the student, and so the app shouldn’t be abused, only used as an aide. To wrap this all up, though you may have to purchase the premium subscription, the app does becomes a very cost friendly substitute for a tutor, and that makes it every bit worth while. We absolutely recommend Mathway for both students and teachers for its simple accessibility and its excellent functionality.

What is Word Snitch, aka News Dictionary? Well, it is basically an internet portable dictionary. What I mean by that is that this app can be used throughout your entire phone. You can snitch on any word that you do not seem to know. How does it work? Well, this app makes it very easy, all you have to do is highlight the chosen word and click copy. This pulls up a text box in the middle of your screen that gives you a detailed dictionary definition of that word. An extremely cool feature of this app is it's "Snitched Words" section. The app records all words that you've snitched and keeps them in chronological order with how long ago you snitched the words. You can't do much with the list other than clicking on a word and checking up the definition, so it would make that great of study tool. But the app does, however, have another awesome feature, it has it's own word bank. With this word bank, you can click on any letter and that letter will bring you a list of unknown words that you can to your word list. Overall I say that this app is very useful to all students. It is simple and easy to navigate, and also includes a small guide explaining how the app works. Although this app is wonderful, it is not perfect. The app could have included more features such as a study section where you can organize your words into flashcards or a form of studying. All in all, I give this app ✭✭✭✭.
SAT Up is an app, accessible by both Android and IPhone/IPad, that allows you to set aside all of those heavy textbooks and practice, through your phone, on the world's most widely used mobile app for SAT prep. SAT Up has proved useful to many students, it has improved their test scores by 200 in just a short amount of time. This app is easy to navigate on your own, you are able to set up your own personalized test based on your strengths and weaknesses, the app itself gives you feedback to help you prepare for the SAT in the most efficient way possible. The app also features custom made daily workouts, full-length practice tests, as well as vocab games and on-demand tutoring. SAT Up's daily workout are designed by the app itself. As you practice it learns your strengths and weaknesses, it then sets up the daily workouts according to your data. SAT Up also includes thousands of practice question for both the current and the redesigned SAT. The questions, and step-to-step solutions, in SAT Up cover all the mastery areas in the SAT. One of this app main and important features is its tutoring. It allows you to contact an instructor to help motivate you and keep you on track to your goals. After each of your sessions with your selected tutor, he'll give you an assignment along with a targeted study plan. I myself haven't had much experience with this app since I haven't the need to study for it, however, I recommended it to a friend and his feedback was extremely positive. I have also checked reviews from others on this app, most of them positive. People who use this app mostly say that it is tremendously useful in helping them achieve their goal in the SAT. The only mentioned downside was the in-app purchases. I give this app a 4-star rating due to its efficiency and how effective it is in its job. I have to, however, take out a star because of all the purchases you must make in the app itself. I had my first experience using Khan Academy last year, when my engineering teacher decided that we should use it to help us learn code. I found the program very useful, it taught me the basics of code and how to understand some of the coding language. The program did teach me how to code, however, if you were already introduced to coding and are knowledgeable of the basics, then it does not serve much use. That does not mean it is useless for its other many subjects. Khan Academy is very versatile in terms of its usability. The program is usable on Apple products such as iPhones and IPads. Androids and PC are compatible with Khan academy as well. The tutorials are detailed and, most of the time, teach and describe the subject of your choosing. I would say that if students found out of Khan Academy, they would be motivated to use it in order to learn more on their desired subject. Students are able to modify the content and choose a level that they are able to complete. They could also save their finished projects to social media, as well as the Khan Academy website. This app/website includes subjects such as English, Math, Science, Social Studies,World Languages, Art, Computers, Business, and even more. I don't believe that there are many faults in Khan Academy, other than that some of the categories don't go very in depth as people would like. I would, overall, give Khan Academy a 4 out of 5 stars, because of it's variety of subjects and how well they are taught. To know more on how Khan Academy works, visit the Khan Academy website. |
