Ever wondered how you can achieve the greatest possible web security? Well the answer is simple really: you just have to play a couple games involving some password guessing, scratch coding, and a bit of anti-scamming. Or at least that according to PBS' NOVA Labs Cybersecurity game which is basically just that, a game that teaches the pure basics of what its like to have a solid secure cyber network. The main goal of the games is to protect a new company, of your choosing, from malicious hackers seeking to undermine it all the while trying to obtain more and more users. Overall the game was relatively easy: it consisted of three main games with multiple steps leading to completion, these games had three levels in which they became increasingly harder to complete the further you got. Completion of levels was awarded with upgrade points enabling you to enhance your security and ward off incoming hackers; the better the results, the stronger the defense. In my opinion this game is a good introductory course for students with little to no knowledge of cyber security, coding, and the harm of hackers and scams. If I was to rate the game it would receive an 8 out of ten for well structured with important information, however lacking a more interactivity with the user.

Google is an amazing company with reaches far into the world, and one of their most amazing accomplished feats is their web browser. After creating the google search bar, the company delved even further and created their very own Google Chrome, and with Chrome came the extensions. Extensions offer users a diverse way of utilising Google Chrome, giving them access points and tools to make the experience better and easier. Many extensions are created to solve problems, some to make things easier, and other just for the fun, however this particular extension solves one of the greatest problems of all time. We all have encountered this problem, the dreaded moment where one sits in fear, confusion, and frustration, the moment that has sacrificed many keyboards to its crusade; forgetting a password. Don't be embarrassed everyone has gone through this faze at least once in their life, they're confident and so giddy to create their new password when suddenly, it hits them, they have forgotten their password. Well no more, not with LastPass. LastPass is a Google Chrome extension that gives the user the ability to save multiple passwords, notes, addresses and even bank accounts, all under an exceptionally advanced protection software of course. LastPass is immensely useful in terms of its organizing capability, it tracks the myriad of web pages accessed and presents the option of saving the password to that site into the conveniently placed vault - accessible through a widget in the top left corner, where then the LastPass icon appears on that webpage thereafter giving the option of auto-filling the username/password. The vault allows the user to create files in which to place the multiple created passwords, notes, etc, under. As a student, I believe LastPass will provide a tremendous aid to my studies seeing as how I am required to create many accounts for a countless amount of outlets used by the school and recreational activities. This extensions not only makes life easier, but it also saves time. LastPass is an amazing tool for both students and teachers, especially teachers with their multiple accounts, LastPass will create an easier and simpler environment. What is the hashtag, and how is it used? Why is it used? People use the hashtag symbol before an important keyword, or phrase, in their Tweets to categorize the Tweets and help them show easily in Twitter Search. Clicking on a hash-tagged word in any message brings you all other Tweets marked with that keyword. So say for example you tweet something having to do with science, like a project or model, you would put in #science. In doing this, you would link your tweet to all other tweets that used the same hashtag symbol, and so now anyone looking at that hashtag is able to see the tweet whether they are a follower or not. Twitter, however, is not the only website that uses the hashtag in this way. Another website, or should I say app, is IFunny. IFunny also utilizes the use of the hashtag in its system, they use it to categorize posts, so that when you like a post you can input the hashtag in the search and find many more like it. Although, IFunny is not an educational app, I'm using it as an example for the reason that it implements the hashtag in a very simple and easy way. This was # The Hashtag, and thank you for tuning in to my Tech Analysis. |
